The Memorial Day weekend holiday in the Southland will begin with sun and mild temperatures on Saturday, but isolated thunderstorms are possible later on the day and on Sunday.

The National Weather Service office in Oxnard said storms are possible over the Antelope Valley on Saturday and elsewhere in Los Angeles County on Sunday.

Any storm would be brief, and the weather service said it is not expecting widespread flash flooding.

The forecast for central Los Angeles from Malibu to Long Beach on Saturday calls for low clouds and fog in the morning, then sunny conditions with highs from the mid 60s to mid 70s. Lows overnight will be in the mid 50s to around 60.

It will be partly cloudy in coastal Orange County after morning drizzle. Highs will be 67 to 72.
