The National Weather Service is extending its forecast of fire weather conditions through the beginning of the work week amid continuing Santa Ana winds and low humidity.
The weather service office in Oxnard said locally gusty winds with continued hot and dry conditions will lead to elevated fire danger away from the coast with brief critical fire danger across the mountains.
“Prolonged hot and dry weather with extremely dry fuels may support rapid fire growth if ignition occurs,” the weather service said.
In addition to the fire weather concerns, there will also be an increased risk of heat-related illnesses for heat-sensitive individuals, especially for those without air conditioning along the coastal plain away from the immediate coast.
The forecast for central Los Angeles from Malibu to Long Beach calls for sun with highs from nearly 80 at the beaches to the mid 80s to lower 90s inland. Lows overnight Sunday will be in the lower 60s.
