All city- and county-funded winter homeless shelters in the San Gabriel Valley have been notified to stay open around the clock starting Thursday in response to the storm forecast by the National Weather Service, Supervisor Hilda Solis says.

The shelters will be open from 5 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Saturday. The storm is forecast to strike the Southland from this afternoon through Friday morning.

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority activated 10 additional beds for the Salvation Army-Bell Shelter Thursday, increasing its capacity to 89, according to Solis. Motel vouchers will be available for homeless families seeking shelter by calling 211.

The winter shelters in the San Gabriel Valley are St. Christopher Catholic Church at 629 S. Glendora Ave. in West Covina and the Pomona Armory at 600 N. Park Ave. in Pomona. Information on additional winter shelters is available by calling 211 or online at lahsa.org.
