Recent storms pounding the Southland have forced some state highway and lane closures Sunday in the area of the Angeles National Forest.

As of 9 a.m., Angeles Crest (2) Highway was closed in both directions until further notice, from just east of Mount Wilson Road at PM 38.5 to just west of Upper Big Tujunga Road at PM 42.6, according to Caltrans. The closure was ordered due to rock slides and unstable conditions.

Emergency vehicles will be permitted and the public can bypass this closed section by taking the Angeles Crest Highway to Upper Big Tujunga Road, which is about a 20-minute detour.

Also, as of 9 a.m. and until further notice, Angeles Crest Highway was closed in both directions at Kratka Ridge PM 59 to Islip Saddle at PM 64.1 due to snow and rock slides.

State Route 39 (San Gabriel Canyon Road) is closed in both directions until further notice from Crystal Lake Road to Angeles Crest Highway due to mud and rock slides. State Route 39 is open in both directions been the San Gabriel River Bridge and Crystal Lake Road.

Also, the left lane of the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic at Parker Road is closed in anticipation of a fast-moving storm system that could bring snow to as low as the 2,000-feet elevation, Caltrans said.
