A 4-year-old gelding has been euthanized after an injury at Santa Anita Park, becoming the fifth racehorse to die during the track’s winter/spring meeting.

Squeaky Cheeky was vanned off after being injured during the fifth race at Santa Anita on Sunday, said Mike Marten of the California Horse Racing Board.

The horse is reported to have collapsed.

It was Squeaky Cheeky’s first-ever race, according to Equibase, which identified the jockey as Mario Gutierrez and the trainer as Peter Eurton.
