A judge finalized the divorce between actress Christina Ricci and her estranged husband, ending their eight-year marriage, court papers obtained Tuesday show.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joseph Lipner’s ruling on Monday came two months after Ricci and James Heerdegen had won approval of a new custody arrangement for their 6-year-old son, Frederick “Freddie” Heerdegen. Ricci obtained sole legal custody of the child and Heerdegen was awarded visitation.
Both Ricci and Heerdegen also have sought restraining orders against each other. Ricci testified Monday and the hearing in her case will resume in late July.
The 41-year-old “Addams Family” actress alleges Heerdegen subjected her to “severe physical and emotional abuse” and that many incidents took place in front of their son. In a sworn declaration, Ricci alleged that Heerdegen began abusing her after she became pregnant in October 2013.
`I began to feel extremely isolated,” Ricci wrote. “He (Heerdegen) said the only way he could feel sorry for me is if I were dismembered into small pieces.”
Ricci and Heerdegen married in 2013 and she filed for divorce last July.
