With freezing temperatures forecast this week for the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and the Mount Wilson area, authorities planned to open winter shelters for people without permanent housing.

Temperatures in the low to mid-20s and dipping down into the upper teens were forecast through Wednesday, leading the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority to open winter shelters for people experiencing homelessness in those areas, the agency announced.

LAHSA Homeless Engagement Teams will be out working to connect people with shelters, or clients can call 211 to reserve a bed. People may also be issued motel vouchers under the Augmented Winter Shelter Program if they call 211. Transportation will be provided to shelters or motels, the agency said.
