Forecasters predicted a chance of thunderstorms, lightning and brief heavy rain in parts of northern Los Angeles County Sunday.

“Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara mountains and Antelope Valley this afternoon. Be prepared for lightning, brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail,” the NWS’ Los Angeles office tweeted at 9:21 a.m.

Sunday’s highs were mostly expected to be in the 80s and lower 90s throughout the Southland.

Temperatures were expected to heat up this week, peaking Tuesday through Thursday, when dome daytime highs are predicted to climb over 100 degrees. Overnight lows will rise as well, staying in the 70s in many areas.

The California Independent System Operator (is anticipating high temperatures and increased electricity demand across key parts of the state for much of this week, and closely monitoring for impacts to the power grid.
