Light rain is expected in parts of Los Angeles and Orange County Monday, with strong winds kicking up in the afternoon and lasting overnight.
“The coastal mountain slopes will see the most precipitation with much lighter rain for portions of the coast and inland valleys. The main effect of this disturbance will be strong westerly winds picking up Monday afternoon and lasting through Tuesday morning,” the National Weather Service said.
Winds gusts up to 40 or 50 mph were predicted in the Southern California deserts, with 50 to 60 mph gusts in the mountains. Coasts and valleys could see gusts up to 30 to 35 mph, according to the NWS.
Rainfall amounts are expected to be a few hundredths to one quarter of an inch. A couple inches of snow was predicted for mountain areas above 5,000 feet, with a dusting possible down to 4,000 feet.
Dry and gradually warmer conditions are expected Tuesday through the weekend.
Health officials are warning the public to avoid the water at all Los Angeles County beaches until at least 4 p.m. Monday due to anticipated high levels of bacteria from last week’s rain.
