The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a windblown dust advisory that is in effect Monday in the Coachella Valley.
The advisory was effective from 1 p.m. Sunday to noon Wednesday due to gusty winds elevating the air quality index to hazardous in some areas, the agency said.
Areas affected by the advisory include Banning, Mecca, Palm Springs, Cathedral City and Indio, where gusts up to 60 mph were expected.
“Limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter,” the SCAQMD advised.
The public was also advised to avoid vigorous physical activity and run air conditioning and/or an air purifier.
Air quality can vary by hour. Current air quality information can be found at aqmd.gov/AQImap.
