The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power urged customers Thursday to continue conserving energy as extreme heat and humidity drive high electricity demand across the city.
Conservation is especially requested in Westside communities, where temperatures remain unusually high, according to the utility.
LADWP officials said more than 90 field crews have been deployed across the city to respond to power outages. Crews worked overnight to restore power to neighborhoods affected by localized outages, prioritizing the oldest outages first.
The utility urged customers to set air-conditioning thermostats to 78 degrees during the hottest hours of the day and avoid using major appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners.
Customers were also advised to avoid using stoves and ovens, close curtains, shades or blinds during the hottest part of the day, turn off lights and electrical equipment when not in use and unplug appliances that continue using electricity while not in use.
LADWP also encouraged residents to visit city cooling centers to reduce their reliance on air conditioning.
