Crews needed about 40 minutes Wednesday to extinguish a fire that engulfed a pickup truck on Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms.
The vehicle was traveling west on I-10, just east of Monterey Avenue at around 3:40 p.m. when it became engulfed in flames on the right shoulder, the California Highway Patrol reported.
CHP officer David Torres told City News Service that the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was able to escape the vehicle before it started to burn.
Cal Fire crews stayed at the scene to clean up, according to Torres. Lane No. 3 had been closed but was reopened around 4:50 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
