A woman leapt to her death Tuesday from a cliff in San Pedro.
Police and firefighters responded at about 12:40 p.m. to a report of a person threatening to jump from a cliff in Point Fermin Park, Officer Jack Richter of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section said.
The woman had jumped only a few feet down the cliff before onlookers made their way to her and tried to stop her from jumping again, Richter said.
But the Los Angeles Fire Department reported about 2:20 p.m. that the woman jumped and was determined to be deceased by department divers who swam ashore to render aid after being positioned in the water.
The woman’s body was hoisted by helicopter to a nearby location to await coroner’s personnel, LAFD spokesman Erik Scott said.
