A man’s body was found Thursday in the surf off Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, and the cause of death was being investigated by Los Angeles police.

The body’s discovery was reported to authorities about 3:45 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Barry Montgomery and Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The body was airlifted to the shore by a fire department helicopter, Scott said.

The man was believed to be about 35 years old, according to LAPD Sgt. Andrew Hudlett of Harbor Division. The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

“There is an active investigation going on right now so I don’t know how he died,” Hudlett said.
