A man was killed and four people suffered major injuries when a car flipped over on a High Desert road and struck a wooden utility pole, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

Four people were thrown out of the car as it spun at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Palmdale Boulevard, west of 130th Street East, according to the California Highway Patrol. That location is in the Antelope Valley, north of Littlerock.

Steve Wissar, Jr. 20, of Palmdale, was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported.

A 1999 Infinity G20 had been driven west on Palmdale Boulevard, past 130th Street East, and went off the right side of the pavement onto the dirt shoulder. The driver steered right, then left, and the car overturned on the dirt shoulder.

The flipping car struck a wooden utility pole and came to rest on its wheels. Four people in the backseat of the car were ejected while the vehicle was overturning. All four backseat passengers — three men and a woman — were taken to a hospital with major injuries.

The driver, a 26-year-old woman from Palmdale, escaped the single- vehicle crash with only minor injuries.

She was not arrested and it was not disclosed by the CHP if she was cited.

The CHP’S Antelope Valley area office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (661) 948-8541.
