An anti-domestic violence ad campaign debuted Monday aimed at young people, with unsettling messages such as “Fear me,” I own you” and You are nothing.”

“Love and abuse never go hand in hand. We have to keep shining a light on domestic violence, because it is a crime that lives in the shadows and causes pain that too often goes unnoticed and unreported,” said Los Angles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who launched the campaign last year.

`Domestic Violence Has No Place Here’ is a thought-provoking campaign that will bring awareness to this crisis and start important conversations in Los Angeles and beyond,” Garcetti added.

The new ads are timed to Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and the campaign points out that one in three teens is a victim of dating abuse. The ads juxtapose romantic images with disturbing words, such as, “You may now hit the bride” highlighted against a backdrop of white lace.

The ads will be featured on bus benches and bus shelters and will appear in both English and Spanish.
