A tractor-trailer caught fire Thursday on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley, resulting in damage to the engine and cab, from which the trucker escaped uninjured.

The blaze was reported about 1:30 p.m. Thursday on the eastbound 60 at Mission Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that flames erupted in the big rig’s engine compartment, spreading to the cab, prompting the driver to pull to the shoulder and jump out.

Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location minutes later and fully contained the blaze at 1:47 p.m.

No freeway lanes were closed as a result of the fire.

There was no word on what the semi was hauling.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
