Fire crews battled a fire Thursday after a big rig truck carrying lithium-ion batteries overturned, causing at least one to explode in the San Pedro area.

The crash was reported shortly before noon in the 900 block of North Seaside Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A hazardous materials team was sent to the scene, and fire crews used defensive efforts to extinguish the flames, fire officials said.

There were no reports of injuries, evacuation orders or widespread hazardous warnings.

The Seaside (47) Freeway was expected to remain closed as fire crews worked to complete their work.
