Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s trip to China will wrap up Wednesday in Beijing after days of meetings with American and Chinese scholars to discuss issues ranging from climate change to economic development.

Garcetti is taking part in what is being billed as a “high-level dialogue” between public and private sector officials from the United States and China.

Garcetti also met with Wang Jianlin, chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, a hotel, cinema chain and department store owner in China that has significant investments in Los Angeles, his aides said.

The delegation participating in the dialogue also includes John Podesta, who founded the progressive think-tank Center for American Progress that organized the meetings.

Podesta, who is the chair of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, has attended each of the dialogues since 2009, according to Tom Caiazza, spokesman for the center.

Diplomat Todd Stern and the center’s policy experts and fellows are also part of the delegation, Caiazza said.

Other issues being discussed include energy and national security policies, he said.

Garcetti attended dialogues held in 2009 and 2010 while he was a Los Angeles city councilman.
