Fans of Prince will be able to get a big-screen glimpse at the late music icon beginning Saturday, when his seminal film “Purple Rain” is screened at select Southland AMC theaters.

Officials with AMC Theatres said the company began working with Warner Bros. shortly after Prince’s death on Thursday to bring the 1984 film — which has been airing as a tribute on some cable stations — back to the silver screen.

AMC will show the film at 87 theaters across the country, including eight in the Los Angeles area:

  • Atlantic Times Square 14, Monterey Park
  • Broadway 4, Santa Monica
  • Covina 17
  • Norwalk 20
  • Ontario Mills 30
  • Orange 30
  • Promenade 16, Woodland Hills
  • And Rolling Hills 20, Torrance.

The film will also be shown at the Mission Valley 20 theater complex in San Diego.

Screenings will continue through Thursday.
