A 29-year-old man was fatally struck by a train in Indio, officials said Monday.
The pedestrian was struck around 7:35 p.m. Sunday near Indio Boulevard and Monroe Street, according to Sgt. Abraham Plata of the Indio Police Department.
The pedestrian was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he was pronounced dead. The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim Monday as Noel Tapia of Indio.
A representative from Union Pacific Railroad told City News Service Tapia was trespassing for unspecified reasons, and no injuries were reported to any train crew members.
No further information was immediately available.
