George W. Bush is delighted Donald Trump is the new “worst president.”
Or at least Will Ferrell in a spot-on imitation of George W. Bush thinks that.
The fake Bush said he needed eight years in office to earn the “worst” designation with floods, wars and economic disasters, but the “new guy only needed a hundred days.”
At her “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” Samantha Bee set up a presidential lectern and promised a special guest.
How special?
“How do you like me now?” said Not the Real George W. Bush — comic actor Ferrell in his killer imitation of the 43rd president.
”The prodigal son has returned,” the fake Bush said. “I don’t know what that means, but it’s positive.”
Ferrell was feral in his imitation.
“You guys would always sneak up on me with ‘gotcha’ questions like ‘Why are we going to war? Gotcha’ and ‘Why did you not respond to Hurricane Katrina? Gotcha,’”the former SNL star said. “I just wish someone had told me all you had to say was ‘fake news’ over and over again. That could be your answer to everything.”
Taking on President Trump, Ferrell cited Bush’s new painting hobby, showing off a half-finished portrait of Trump.
“As you can see, I exhausted my palette of yellows and oranges,” Ferrell said. “It’s clear that he has an unnatural color to him, it’s a strange hue, it’s not really orange or yellow. I have a new name for that color, they should just call it Mar-a-Lago.”
Ferrell-as-Bush summarized the irony: “For the longest time I was considered the worst president of all time. That has changed. I needed eight years, a catastrophic flood, a war built on a lie and an economic disaster. The new guy only needed a hundred days.”
There was no immediate word of reaction from the real George W.
