Four people, including two children, were hospitalized after being electrically shocked in a Palm Desert luxury hotel swimming pool just east of Palm Springs.

There was no word yet of what may have caused the shock, nor if other people were in the pool at the time and escaped injury as temperatures hovered in the mid-90s.

The incident was reported in broad daylight at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Marriott Shadow Ridge Resort, 9003 Shadow Ridge Road. Presumably the underwater pool lighting was not on at the time.

The four victims suffered minor injuries while swimming in the Chuckawalla Pool at the sprawling resort that has a number of pools, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department. All four patients were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The cause of the electrical short was unknown Wednesday afternoon, Newman said.
