An eighth-grade teacher at La Paz Intermediate School in Mission Viejo was arrested Friday on suspicion of having an “inappropriate relationship” with a male student, an Orange County sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Kristen Roush, 34, was taken into custody at her Aliso Viejo residence, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock. She was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child and is being held on $50,000 bail.

The boy’s parents contacted sheriff’s investigators in July when they grew concerned about the relationship between him and a teacher, Hallock said. Investigators retrieved evidence from the cell phones of the boy and the teacher that led them to suspect an inappropriate relationship, he added.

Anyone with information relating to the case was asked to call sheriff’s investigators at (714) 647-7000. Anonymous tips may be made by calling Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
