A man who was driving a suspected stolen Corvette died when the car collided with another vehicle in Lake Forest.
Around 6:30 p.m., deputies took a report of a Corvette being stolen out of Mission Viejo, said Lt. Wayne Rehnelt of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
About an hour later, the car was seen traveling in Lake Forest, Rehnelt said. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle but the man drove away at a high rate of speed.
Deputies searched the area for the Corvette and discovered it had been involved in a collision with another car near the intersection of Trabuco Road and Cherry Avenue about five to 10 minutes after they started their search.
The driver of the Corvette was pronounced dead at the scene, Rehnelt said.
The other driver involved declined medical treatment at the scene and took herself to a hospital to be examined as a precaution, Rehnelt added.
The name of the driver was not immediately released and the cause of the crash is pending a “lengthy” investigation, Rehnelt said.
