A driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs was behind bars Wednesday for leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Coachella that ended with a crash, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies tried to stop the driver, who was allegedly displaying signs of intoxication, but he sped off about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The pursuit ended when the motorist got into a collision at Avenue 50 and Jackson Street that left the other driver with minor injuries, sheriff’s officials said.

Froilan David Ramirez, 40, of Coachella, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI resulting in injury, evading and committing a felony while on bail.

Ramirez was being held at the Indio jail in lieu of $120,000 bail pending arraignment Thursday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
