One person was killed and a second person injured Thursday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Van Nuys.

The accident occurred in the 16400 block of Vanowen Street, near the Van Nuys Airport, about 9:10 p.m., according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The driver of one of the vehicles was trapped and firefighters worked to free him, but he was declared dead at the scene, Prange said.

A second person who was able to get out of one of the wrecked vehicles was taken to a hospital in fair condition, Prange said. A third person left the scene prior to firefighters’ arrival, Prange said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The age, gender and name of the person killed were not disclosed.

Vanowen Street was blocked between Hayvenhurst and Woodley avenues until further notice, KCAL9 reported.
