A man and woman were behind bars Friday on suspicion of robbing a woman in her car with her young child in Costa Mesa.
Jacob Aaron Vazquez, 20, and Esther Kavina Maultsby, 19, both of Costa Mesa, were being held on $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
The woman was parked in a bank parking lot in the 1400 block of Baker Street just before 3 p.m. Thursday when a knife-wielding suspect opened the passenger-side door and demanded her purse, police said. The woman’s “young child” was asleep in a car seat in the car, police said.
The robber grabbed the purse and jumped into a getaway car, police said.
The victim was attempting to get her purse when the getaway driver emerged from the bank, shoved the woman and got into the car and fled, police said.
The victim got the getaway car’s license plate and called police.
Police tracked down Vazquez and Maultsby in a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle in a parking lot in the 12200 block of Adams Avenue, police said. Police said they suspect they were also behind another purse theft at TeWinkle Park.
