Deputies in East Los Angeles took a vandalism suspect into custody near the Long Beach (710) Freeway, which was closed for more than an hour while the search was conducted.

The man — who apparently was armed — was seen by deputies near Cesar Chavez Avenue about 8:10 a.m., and he ran onto the freeway and then into a nearby construction area, according to the sheriff’s department.

The 710 Freeway was closed in both directions near Cesar Chavez Avenue, as were the transition roads from the Pomona (60) Freeway to the northbound 710 Freeway, while the search was conducted. The lanes were reopened about 9:35 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
