A woman who allegedly critically injured a 55-year-old man on a scooter in a hit-and-run in South Los Angeles turned herself in to police Friday.

The man was riding a scooter northbound on Hooper Avenue approaching East 48th Place just before 10:40 a.m. Thursday when Karen Camacho, 30, driving a gray Honda Civic, allegedly “negotiated an unsafe left turn” onto East 48th Place and collided with him, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man was knocked off his scooter onto the street. The Honda stopped momentarily before fleeing the scene, police said.

Paramedics were called to the scene and took the man to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition

Camacho, accompanied by an attorney, turned herself in at the LAPD Central Community Police Station at about 1:50 p.m. Friday and was placed under arrest on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, according to police.

No further details were released.
