A 65-year-old Garden Grove man was in custody Wednesday on suspicion of causing a drug-fueled collision that killed a pedestrian in Costa Mesa.
Jon Scott Weir was taken to a hospital following the crash, which occurred about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday at Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue, according to Roxi Fyad of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
When officers arrived the vehicle was on fire, but Weir managed to get out, Fyad said. The rollover crash knocked over a traffic light, she said.
Witnesses told police the driver struck the male pedestrian who was on a sidewalk waiting to cross the street, Fyad said. The pedestrian, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weir was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, Fyad said.
