The Los Angeles Zoo is home to four new baby goats and a baby takin that can now be viewed by visitors, zoo officials announced Monday.

Two male kids and one female kid were born to a 3-year-old Nigerian Dwarf goat named Lacey on May 11, and one female kid was born to a 3-year-old Nigerian Dwarf goat named Glory a week later.

All four baby goats were fathered by Spangle, a Nigerian Dwarf goat that arrived at the Los Angeles Zoo a year ago.

The young Nigerian Dwarf goats — each weighing about nine pounds — have been moved into the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo, after spending a few weeks in a barnyard out of the public eye.

They will be available for viewing 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily, depending on the weather. They will join 15 goats and six sheep in a main contact yard later this month.

Nigerian Dwarf goats grow to two feet tall at the shoulders and weigh 50 to 75 pounds.

Meanwhile, a female Sichuan takin was born May 23 to a 9-year-old mother and a 12-year-old father. She is the third to be born to the same parents in the past few years and will be viewable during daily zoo hours, depending on the weather.

Takins have stocky bodies with short legs and big two-toed hooves. They are nimble in steep and rocky areas, and hail from China’s mountain forests. Over-hunting and loss of habitat threatens the species, which is considered vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
