Burglars have targeted another home in the San Fernando Valley, part of a series of such crimes that have plagued the area this month, authorities said Saturday.
The latest burglary was reported at about 10 p.m. Friday in the 7000 block of Shoshone Avenue in the Van Nuys/Lake Balboa area, near White Oak Avenue and Sherman Way, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Residents told officers that they found a door open when they returned home, according to KTLA5. It was not immediately clear what, if anything, was taken from the home. The burglars also destroyed a security camera, according to KTLA5.
The LAPD has increased patrols of late to try and stem what’s become a regular occurrence in the Valley. April has seen a spate of burglaries, many of them close to Ventura Boulevard, one of the main east-west routes through an area that includes the communities of Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana and Woodland Hills. Homes in Toluca Lake have also been targeted.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass directed LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell to increase patrols in the area earlier this month. McDonnell has said investigators are using a number of methods to stop the thieves, including gathering security video and using automated license plate readers.
The biggest problem with the current leadership in Southern California and actually all of California is that the leadership is reactive rather than proactive. Think: Pacific Palisades fires and the empty reservoirs. And with the current home breakins in the San Fernando, the police are only now being deployed to the susceptible areas, rather than having had the police in place prior to these crimes. It’s always after the fact that Bass and Newsom take interest or help.
