California Highway Patrol officers in Downey arrested a suspect involved in a vehicle pursuit with deputies earlier this week that began in the Alhambra area, authorities said Saturday.
The arrest was made at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday on Imperial Highway at Paramount Boulevard. Deputies were chasing a car on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Alhambra.
At approximately 9 p.m., CHP officers were monitoring the chase, which involved a gold Nissan Altima occupied by armed robbery suspects, according to the CHP news release. CHP officers joined the pursuit at approximately 9:08 p.m., at the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway near the Ventura (134) Freeway. The pursuit “traversed several freeways,” authorities said.
“However, the CHP discontinued the pursuit as the Altima traveled at high speeds and failed to slow or stop at several intersections and nearly colliding with a bicyclist,” the CHP said.
The Altima became disabled near Imperial Highway and Paramount Boulevard in Downey. The driver fled on foot and a female passenger remained in the vehicle. She was detained and eventually released.
The suspect, with the assistance of CHP aircraft and K-9 officers, was later taken into custody. Francisco Robert Moreno, 36, of San Gabriel, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, as well as resisting, obstructing or delaying arrest.
The CHP’s Central Los Angeles office urged anyone with information regarding the pursuit to call them at 213-744-2331 or the CHP’s Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 213-259-3410.
