A 20-year-old motorist was arrested on a felony hit- and-run charge after he allegedly struck two pedestrians with an SUV — killing one — near an intersection in the Mid-City section of Los Angeles.
The other pedestrian, who suffered severe injuries, was listed in stable condition at an area hospital, said Sgt. Philip Ybarra of the Los Angeles Police Department‘s South Traffic Division.
The pedestrians were struck at approximately 10:10 p.m. Saturday while crossing in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Adams Boulevard and La Brea Avenue by a 2005 Toyota Sequoia going south on La Brea, Ybarra said.
The motorist fled the scene without stopping or rendering aid, he said.
The pedestrians were rushed to an area hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead at 12:46 a.m. Sunday. Her name will be released after notification of next of kin, according to Lt. Fred Corral of the coroner’s office.
The motorist later returned to the scene with his parents and identified himself. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run and booked at the LAPD’s 77th Street station, Ybarra said.
Detectives asked anyone with information about the crash to call them at (323) 421-2500.
