A man alleged to be armed with a gun was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Panorama City on Tuesday.
No officers were injured in the shooting, which occurred about 3:15 p.m. in a residential neighborhood in the 14000 block of Parthenia Street, according to Officer Ricardo Hernandez of the Los Angeles Police Department‘s Media Relations Section.
The suspect was pronounce dead at the scene and a gun was recovered, Hernandez said.
The officers, from the LAPD’s Mission Station, had been called to the area of Roscoe Boulevard and Willis Avenue to investigate a report of someone disturbing the peace, Hernandez said.
About two blocks away from the reported disturbance, the officers saw a man matching the suspect’s description in the 14000 block of Parthenia Street, Hernandez said.
They exited their patrol vehicle and saw that the suspect was holding a gun, Hernandez said.
That’s when the officer-involved shooting occurred, he said.
The officers involved were wearing body cameras, but the video will not be made available at this time, Hernandez said.
The city began providing body cameras to Mission Station officers earlier this month.
LAPD officers have been involved in 29 shootings this year, with 15 resulting in fatalities, according to the Los Angeles Times.
