A 55-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday in the Athens Village community of unincorporated Los Angeles County.
The shooting occurred a little before 12:55 a.m. on West 131st Street near Broadway, said Deputy Don Walker of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The victim was standing on a street when he was approached by a suspect, who began arguing with him, said Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
At some point during the argument the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in the upper torso, Saldana said.
Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Walker said.
The suspect was last seen running north up an alley, Saldana said.
