The streak of increases to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County was extended Friday to 14 days with an increase of three-tenths of a cent to $4.593, one day after it rose 1.1 cents.

The average price has risen 23.1 cents over the past 14 days, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The streak of rising prices follows a run of 10 decreases in 11 days totaling 10.4 cents that dropped the average price to its lowest amount since Dec. 31, 2022.

The average price is 6.8 cents more than one week ago, 3.3 cents higher than one month ago and 6.1 cents above what it is was one year ago. It has dropped $1.78 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Oil Price Information Service on Wednesday reported a few announced planned and unplanned shutdowns at Southern California refineries that could affect supply,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“Since this is the time of year with lower demand, it is unknown whether the shutdowns will cause enough of a supply shortage to require imported gasoline, which typically pushes prices up until the imported supply arrives.”

The national average price rose for the third consecutive day, increasing 1.3 cents to $3.166. It has increased 2.1 cents over the past three days, including a half-cent Thursday. The increases follow a run of three decreases in four days totaling nine-tenths of a cent.

The national average price is 1.2 cents more than one week ago and 8.8 cents higher than one month ago, but 27.1 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.85 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
