A fire believed to have been sparked by fireworks scorched about a quarter-acre of terrain on a steep hillside in Dana Point Friday, but no injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.
The fire erupted around 3 p.m. Friday on a hillside above Baby Beach, roughly in the 34000 block of Ensenada Place, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
Ground crews were quickly able to get a handle on the blaze, despite the steep terrain, preventing the flames from reaching homes and businesses at the top of the hillside.
OCFA officials said investigators determined the blaze was “related to fireworks.”
“We urge the community to help keep everyone safe,” the agency shared on X, formerly Twitter. “While the work of our firefighters and (Orange County Sheriff’s Department) prevented injuries and saved property today, fireworks can have tragic consequences.”
