Sheriff’s detectives Thursday turned to the public for help identifying suspects connected to an ultimately fatal attack on a 40-year-old San Jacinto man in a local park.

David Montero was assaulted shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday at Mistletoe Park in the 500 block of East Main Street, near Mistletoe Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Jarred Bishop said patrol deputies were called to the location to investigate reports of an assault and discovered Montero there, “suffering from traumatic injuries.”

The victim was hospitalized and remained in intensive care until Wednesday, when he succumbed to the injuries.

Bishop did not disclose the specific nature of Montero’s wounds, or possible reasons why he had been at the location where he was assaulted.

Central Homicide Unit detectives assumed the investigation based on the circumstances, according to the sheriff’s spokesman.

Possible suspects have not been identified.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was encouraged to contact detectives at 951-235-7382.
