Authorities Friday identified a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway near Boyle Heights.

The collision was reported at 9:58 p.m. Wednesday and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the freeway near Lorena Street, where they learned the pedestrian was struck in one of the freeway’s middle lanes, CHP Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.

William Palomares, 40, who was homeless, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The eastbound freeway was closed in the area while an investigation was conducted.
