More than a dozen people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and other charges following DUI checkpoints across Riverside County, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday.
Two drivers were arrested in Temecula on Friday evening after one driver failed to comply with a checkpoint and another driver was driving without a license, the department said.
The checkpoint was conducted between Rancho California and Margarita roads from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
In Norco, deputies conducted a checkpoint between Hamner Avenue and Third Street from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said two people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and another two for alleged misdemeanor DUI warrants, while 16 citations were issued for unlicensed drivers, four vehicles were stored and impounded and two citations were issued for driving with a suspended license.
In Jurupa Valley, a checkpoint was held on Limonite Avenue, east of Clay Street, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. That operation resulted in four drivers being arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, one driver arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, one driver arrested on suspicion of a felony warrant for driving under the influence, one person arrested on suspicion of evading and additional misdemeanor charges, 17 citations issued for driving without a license and five vehicles stored and impounded.
A first-time DUI charge can cost drivers an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license, authorities said.
