A vigil will be held Saturday for a ninth grade student at Cabrillo High School who died after suffering a “medical emergency” during a soccer game, Long Beach Unified School District officials said.

In a post on Instagram, the official Cabrillo Boys Soccer account announced the student’s death, saying it was “the hardest post we have ever had to make.”

“Forever and always we will hold Brian in our hearts,” the post reads.

It does not further identify the student who died.

According to the post, published in the Long Beach Watchdog, an online “worker-owned collective,” attendees can meet at 9 a.m. by the “C” statue in the roundabout on Willard Street west of Santa Fe Avenue in Long Beach, then walk to the high school’s soccer field to leave flowers and candles.

In a post on the Long Beach Unified School District’s X account, school officials wrote they were “heartbroken” to share the news of the student’s death Friday adding that their “thoughts are with the student’s family, and the entire community.

“Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further details will be shared”.

Counseling services will be available for students when classes resume on Tuesday, following Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday.
