The Murrieta Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint next week within the city, authorities said.
The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. until midnight Friday in the area of Jefferson Avenue and Murrieta Hot Springs Road, the Murrieta Police Department said.
The checkpoint location was based on data of impaired-driving incidents. Authorities said impaired-driving includes alcohol, prescription medication, over-the-counter drugs and recreational marijuana.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
