Fires erupted Monday in a travel trailer and storage yard at a mobile home resort and campground in Aguanga, spreading into vegetation and burning about three acres before crews began establishing containment lines.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:42 p.m. at the Jojoba Hills RV Resort in the 45100 block of Highway 79, near Rainbow Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in a travel trailer, as well as a storage yard on the west end of the facility, extending into vegetation on a hillside.
The flames were moving at a very slow rate for lack of wind, enabling crews to establish hose lays and get a partial line around the larger of the two fires within 15 minutes. A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter reached the area at 5:25 p.m. and began a series of drops that proved effective, according to officials at the scene.
The helicopter was expected to depart by 6 p.m. due to darkness.
No evacuations were ordered, but sheriff’s deputies were limiting access to the resort.
There was no word on what might have triggered the blazes.
