It took firefighters less than one hour to put out flames in the vegetation of the Santa Ana River Bottom in Riverside Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 12:40 a.m. in the area of Bonaminio Park, in the 5000 Tequesquite Ave., according to Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Chuck Tasker.

“The first arriving unit reported a vegetation fire burning in dense vegetation, with several palm trees involved,” Tasker said.

The 15 firefighters had the flames out in about 40 minutes, with damage held to one-quarter acre, he said. About two hours of investigation and overhaul followed.
