A Los Angeles Police Department officer was hospitalized after a crash on the Ventura (101) Freeway during a high-speed pursuit of a group of burglary suspects in Van Nuys before sunrise Friday.
Officers from the LAPD’s Van Nuys Division responded to a burglary-in-progress call about 3:15 a.m. Friday at a business located at 15355 Sherman Way, west of Sepulveda Boulevard, and when they arrived at the location, they saw the suspects and a pursuit began, LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes told City News Service.
LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes later told City News Service the pursuit started at 3:16 a.m. and ended at 3:24 a.m.
The suspects led officers on a freeway chase that ended near Tampa Avenue and the Ventura Freeway, where the officers crashed their patrol car. The suspects were able to evade police but their vehicle was found abandoned at the Ventura Freeway and Burbank Boulevard, Terzes said.
The injured LAPD officer was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Terzes said.
