A 27-year-old armed robbery suspect who was shot and killed by South Gate Police Department officers in a parking lot was identified Tuesday.
The suspect was identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as Jonathan Lozano.
Officers were sent to a parking lot at Walnut Street and Seville Avenue around 12:30 p.m. last Wednesday, where they had tracked the suspect, who was wanted for two armed robberies that occurred over a week ago, police said.
Prior to the shooting, the suspect parked his vehicle in the parking lot and pointed a gun at the officers, according to ABC7.
Video from the scene showed an SUV in which the suspect was apparently found, and two handguns allegedly were recovered at the scene.
Multiple evidence markers were also visible on the ground.
Deputy Daniel Dominguez Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to City News Service that the department had taken over the investigation of the shooting.
