The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols in different areas of the city from Thursday through Monday, the department announced Wednesday.
Officers will be looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including marijuana, some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs that could impair driving.
A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, and impaired drivers could also have their license suspended.
The saturation patrols will be deployed at the following times and locations:
— Thursday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Newton area;
— Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. in the Mission area;
— Monday between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the Olympic area.
Additionally, DUI checkpoints were scheduled between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday at Century Boulevard and Western Avenue, and on Sunday at Pacific Avenue and 10th Street.
