The former security guard of an aeronautics and aviation training school in Inglewood was in custody Saturday, accused of shooting two women there and leaving them in critical condition.

The shooting occurred at 3:45 p.m. Friday inside an office on the campus of the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in the 8900 block of Aviation Boulevard, between Arbor Vitae Street and Hillcrest Boulevard, authorities said.

Both victims were taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to media reports.

KTLA5 reported the suspect — a former employee of the college — barricaded himself inside a building before he fled the campus. He was allegedly wearing an outfit that resembled a security uniform, according to Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, the station reported.

The suspect was arrested in Koreatown, ABC7 reported.

He was identified Saturday as 40-year-old Jesse Figueroa. Sheriff’s inmate records show Figueroa was arrested at 7:21 p.m. Friday and booked at the Inglewood Police Department at 12:33 a.m. Saturday, and was moved into the LA County Inmate Reception Center at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to be held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Inglewood’s mayor described the shooting as an act of “workplace violence.”

Butts confirmed that a 9mm shell casing was found at the scene and noted that DNA or fingerprint evidence may be present on it.

Spartan College Inglewood Campus president Chris Becker issued a statement Saturday: “We are deeply saddened and upset by what transpired. Our thoughts are with our two staff members who are in medical care and their families during this time. Counseling services and support are being arranged for students and staff for the coming days.”

The names of the victims and their current conditions were not released by Inglewood police.
